Hobnob App User Case Study

#Vanagonlife is an Instagram hashtag referring to a particular model of Volkswagen that was popular in the 1980s and 1990s. However, it represents far more than just the vehicle itself. There is a community associated with #vanagonlife, humble, laid-back, and adventure-seeking. 

Hobnob user, Ryan (also known as @poseidonsbeard), is the perfect example of this. He shared a bit about his unique lifestyle with us, and how the Hobnob app makes it easy for him to connect with other #vanagonlife-ers and #vanlifers from anywhere. 

Making connections with other #vanagonlife-ers

Ryan loves the way this lifestyle gives him the ability to escape the doldrums of being cooped up inside a house with energetic little ones and, instead, get out to explore places like “The Last Best Place” Montana and the Baja Penninsula. 

It is this attitude, the idea of appreciating life in the moment and simply being rather than trying to be something, is what draws the community of #vanagonlife-ers together. 

In celebration of this, and a new van, Ryan used Hobnob to host a “van-warming” surf trip.

The Hobnob app’s naming option made it easy for Ryan to pick an event name that other #vanagonlife-ers would respond to. He titled his event “Slowride” and then used the contact search tool to invite his friends and fellow van owners. 

He used its details section to provide guests with everything they might need including the location of the campground where the event would take place and when the event would start. 

Hobnob’s text-to-reply feature made it easy for guests to respond with a quick “yes” or “no” before putting their phones away to enjoy life in the moment once more. 

This was a big win for Ryan, whose motto is about being in the moment. Hobnob made it easy to plan, invite, monitor, and update guests so that he could spend less time on the app and more time with his family and friends. 

On the day of the event, attendees could send updates to the event’s message section. Whether they were a bit delayed due to those inevitable van complications, unable to attend because a kid got sick, or requesting orders for a bagel pick-up, the Hobnob messaging system made any updates easy and convenient for all involved.

Best of all, the app's gallery allowed guests to upload content in real-time or post-event. As enthusiasts of their lifestyles and sharing that with the community on Instagram, this allowed them to enjoy all of the content from the day without having to worry about uploading to separate albums and sharing elsewhere.

Hobnob did the work so that guests could arrive, surf, enjoy great food, and laughter-filled conversations. One van may have gotten stuck in the sands of the campground but overall, it was a huge success.
